VOGG [DECAPITATED]: I cannot imagine what I would have done without the guitars.

DECAPITATED has been one of Europe’s (Poland) biggest Death Metal exports. Since their teenage years, the band has been through a lot to be where they are today. They are ready with their seventh full length ‘Anticult‘ that is all set to be out via Nuclear Blast this July 7th, 2017. I am speaking with the band’s founder/ guitarist/ composer/ song writer Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka in this special interview we did. Excerpts:

MJM. You guys have been in the scene for about 2 decades. Still sounding fresh and raw just like the old times. What is it that keeps you motivated so much?

Vogg: Well it’s all about enjoying the music you know. We are inspired by many great legends and I personally love the guitars. I cannot imagine what I would have done without the guitars. Plus, it’s all about getting together with a bunch of other band mates and creating something.

MJM. You formed Decapitated with your late brother Vitek back in the mid 90’s when you were in your teenage. What was your aim and idea back then with the band? Did you anticipate the band to gain such a huge fan base in a good span of time?

Vogg: We never anticipated at all. We just wanted to play for fun and in due time, we took it up seriously and full time. We didn’t expect people to respond so much to our music. It feels great. Back then, we were still learning instruments. We had a demo tape released by a small label who seemed interested. There was no looking back since then.

At  Capital of Rock – Wrocław.

MJM. Unlike most traditional Death Metal bands, Decapitated has a lot of complex song structures, tonnes of blast beats and grooves. What inspired you to play this form of Death Metal?

Vogg:  We are heavily inspired by the Floridian Death Metal scene, with bands like Morbid Angel, Deicide and also bands like Vader from our home, Poland. As a band, our idea was to stay true to our music. We write stuff that is original and truly unique and staying true to our sound. As a composer, this was the most important part to me to. We wanted to make something different.

MJM. With the seventh album ‘Anticult’ all set for a wide release, how are things shaping up?

Vogg: We are super excited about it. Everything is in place. We are getting ready for our European/ Baltic countries tour.

18121894_10155034861620991_161867465819761868_o.jpg

MJM. Tell us about the concept behind this album. What is the reference to the ‘Anticult’ here?

Vogg: Oh, yes. The new album, Anticult is a deep mixture of all the Decapitated albums. Everything from the sound, approach, musicality, production and just about everything. It’s going to be a lot different. It’s not just going to be Death Metal or Technical Death Metal stuff with chunky riffs and blast beats but we have explored all the metal genres with this album. We have touched every aspect of it.

We have all evolved from what we were.

MJM. This is also your 3rd release under Nuclear Blast records. How is it working with them?

Vogg: They are very cool and extremely easy to work with. Besides, our band now has a new management- 5B Artist Management. So our management does a lot of work. In terms of booking, promoting etc., On the other hand, our label is involved a lot with the licensing, printing, selling, merchandises and economy. In that way, our label has a different set of functions at the same time, they are very hardworking. They treat their bands well. They push their bands well and far ahead.

MJM. How does this album symbolize the evolution that you guys are going through? How has this change been in terms of evolution and writing approach?

Vogg: We have all evolved from what we were. We follow mostly traditional methods to record. It’s the same with this album. This one is a mixture of all, like I mentioned. I first make the demo tracks and check with the guys. Then we jam the track out to see if we can get everything going with the coordination to keep it more fluid. Then we record the album. We follow the usual systematic way to record the drums, guitars, vocals and bass.

MJM. How do you guys ease of the tense and focus on getting it right? Might help the new bands who are experiencing recording their studio album for the first time.

Vogg: Get together more. More time spent in the studio. So we jam a lot.

DECAPITATED- Never (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

MJM. Apart from writing music, what are the other things that you do in your leisure time?

Vogg- I have 2 kids. Each of them is 2 and 4 years old respectively. When I am at home, I am usually taking care of them. I have my own home studio. I love cooking. I love spending time with my family. I also make sure to spend time in between to record the guitars. It’s pretty much this while I am at it. Being a family man is great.

MJM. Any favorite movies? Or Filmmakers?

Vogg: I love Quinten Tarantino and Gangster flicks, thrillers, crime movies. I do enjoy other stuffs as well. I love the movie Whiplash. I am not sure if you watched it, but it’s very inspirational. My wife enjoys watching this movie as well. I watch dramas, all genres basically.

We are close friends with Behemoth; I was even speaking to Seth three days ago.

MJM. Poland is also an export of bands like Behemoth, Vader, and Hate as such. Are you guys friends by chance?

Vogg: Yes, very much. We are close friends with Behemoth; I was even speaking to Seth three days ago. I keep following Nergal on social media, we speak a lot. He is someone who keeps posting things about everything in life on social media; his instagram, facebook and stuff. And about Vader, I grew up listening to them. Feels amazing to tour with them now. Great guys. Just about everyone.

MJM. What are some of the other non-metal bands that you enjoy listening to?

Vogg: There’s too many to name. Not remembering anything now hahaha! But let me tell you that I love metal, we guys love metal. We listen to metal a lot while touring as well. But listening to metal does not necessarily mean that you have to play a show and come back and listen to metal in the backstage or hotel room. I personally listen to a wide range of musical styles, as long as it pleases me musically.

MJM. You guys will be on tour very soon with some amazing bands. How excited are you to put up the new songs on tour?

Vogg: We are very excited! We are going to be touring Europe and Baltic countries with Vader and another couple of Polish bands and a Swedish band as well. It’s going to be a Polish invasion. A good combination of Extreme Metal.

MJM. And is there is a possibility you guys might just drop by in India again?

Vogg: We would certainly love to. We have a tight schedule this year; we have Europe, North America, some major Festival appearances. So we are free early next year, with our tour schedule availability. If promoters in India want to see us, they just have to reach out. We will be there. We would love to.

MJM. Thank you so much for speaking with us, and all the best with the new release! Take care.

Vogg: It was amazing speaking with you my friend. We hope to come there soon again and also meet our fans. We had an amazing time there before. Thanks for your support and interest in us.

CANNIBAL CORPSE and NICKI MINAJ collaborate for a song about Eating Ass

Death-metal band Cannibal Corpse and pop singer Nicki Minaj are working on a surprising collaboration birthed from a mutual appreciation of “ass eating,” their respective record labels confirmed earlier today. “Eating human asses has been a subject of rumination throughout our band’s entire existence,” said founding Cannibal Corpse member Alex Webster. “Nicki’s lyrical fantasy of getting her ass eaten is pretty twisted, and we thought we could do some great stuff with her.”

The song, tentatively titled “Choked to Death by Voluminous Rump,” is expected to bridge the gap between Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Cannibal Corpse’s “Meat Hook Sodomy” by delving into the decreasingly taboo subject of ass eating. However, those close to the project report creative differences have already arisen. “The ‘diva’ rumors are totally true,” said Cannibal Corpse vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, killing a cockroach in the band’s sweaty, gory-movie-poster-decorated Tampa storage unit and practice space. “She refuses to practice here for some reason. It’s very unprofessional in my eyes. You get used to dead rodents in the walls and on the floors after 35 minutes or so.

Minaj, was worried that Cannibal Corpse’s use of euphemisms was excessive. “I have this line, ‘You got a Nicki sandwich, boy. You ain’t eating gluten-free.’ And they rhyme it with, ‘I’ll dissect your rectum with chisel-sharpened teeth.’ Like, dude! Just say you wanna toss that salad,” said Minaj, taking a break in an air-conditioned Cadillac Escalade.

Webster confirmed both lyricists were struggling to find the right way to fit together. “She added a lot about expensive purses and jewelry and stuff like that. I’d prefer if she described the angular trajectory of the blood spatter from cutting ass flesh with a table knife. Or something like that, anyway,” said Webster. The artists have found common ground, however, agreeing that the song’s tempo will sit somewhere between 120 and 265 BPM, and to stop touching each other’s hair.

The song is slated to be released mid-summer, provided the timetable remains intact for the artists’ cross-promotional fragrance, “Pink Entrails.”

PLAGUE THROAT- The Human Paradox | Album Review

One of India’s most celebrated Death Metal acts PLAGUE THROAT have finally put down their debut full length album- The Human Paradox via Transcending Obscurity Records that is all set to release this May 30th, 2017.

Upon the first listen, I could clearly sense that the band has taken the Old School Death Metal trait with a horde of brutality down their path sticking to the roots of their ascendants. Unlike their debut EP, this album carries a much better production and enriched with immense technicality and variety. I still remember watching them live a couple of times and these guys absolutely butcher everything in their path and carry the ultimate motto of ‘No bullshit Death Metal’. It was interesting to witness how well they could refurbish their studio quality on a live stage. Perhaps, that’s also one of the reasons why they are among the top tier bands in the sub-continent.

The Human Paradox can be termed as the band’s most ambitious project till date. It’s impressive that the band has still managed to put this release without compromising on anything and after everything that they have been through. The album is a sturdy amalgamation of blood, sweat and Death Metal. Front man, Nangsan has epitomized the guitars with great riffs and skills. The writing involves a great mixture of old school styles and improvisation, yet abiding by their lineage. The focus of the band is clear-cut and it is exceptionally stylized to fit into the current era in their own distinct fashion. It’s a fine spirit that lies embedded in this album. The speed and the essence of melody is deep rooted within. Tracks like ‘Dominion Breach‘, ‘Fallible Transgression‘ easily stand out. You can definitely hear a Dying Fetus, a Cannibal Corpse, some Suffocation and Hypocrisy as well but the band knows what they want. The solo in ‘Conception Subjection‘ is worth mentioning too. The track ‘Hour of Darkness‘ and ‘Corporeal‘ are great tracks that show the core of the bass lines. It’s very groovy and reckons the depth of the album. New addition to the band, Jerry has taken the responsibility for the bass sessions.

PLAGUE THROAT (India) – Fallible Transgression (OFFICIAL VIDEO) (Death Metal)

Nangsan‘s style of death growls focuses more on clear vocal exhibition without stressing and also adds a raspy element which sounds compelling at the same time. Influenced by the likes of Frank Mullen, Corpsegrinder to name a few. The man behind the kit, Malice deserves a special mention as this is clearly his best work. It’s the drums that complement the overall gut of the album. The drums have splattered the ruthless nature of this record. From terrific double bass to the extreme blast beats; they maintain a rich tone throughout without losing out on it. His agility and dexterity to adapt to a wide style is greatly elucidated from the start till the end without any hindrances. The track ‘Conflict Resolution‘ is everything that I have described above.

This album will go down as one of the best releases for this year. One of the most remarkable factors in this album is the fact that it is fluid. There’s a really good flow between the songs and nothing seemed to be a bad addition to this album. The consistency is maintained well which is one of the most important things to be noted.

Plague Throat‘s The Human Paradox is a Death Metal album in it’s finest form. The impeccable artisanship of these guys are yet again proved to a great extent.

POSSESSED to return after 31 years with new studio album!

Official statement from the label:

Nuclear Blast is proud to finally announce the worldwide signing and return of POSSESSED! Few bands have done more to push the boundaries of extreme metal than the legendary POSSESSED. Even fewer can create a unique style, which continues to set them apart from all others by being the very first in a genre they laid the foundation for. POSSESSED are by definition, the creators of Death Metal. Ever since they stormed onto the San Francisco metal scene in the early 1980’s, POSSESSED has been redefining and breaking the rules for metal. Nuclear Blast is very excited to be a part of that continued legacy.

Comments vocalist and founding member Jeff Becerra: “POSSESSED are pleased and honored to announce our joining the Nuclear Blast family. Currently, we are hard at work writing new material for our upcoming first full-length release on Nuclear Blast. I want to give special thanks to everybody at Nuclear Blast, and to all of our supporters. This has been a long time coming and this is a very exciting time for us.”

Fans can expect POSSESSED‘s first a full-length release in 31 years, sometime in 2018.

ORIGIN- Accident And Error | New Single

American Tech Death quartet ORIGIN have released a surprise track from their new album- ‘Unparalleled Universe‘. All set to release on June 30th, 2017 via Agonia Records and Nuclear Blast.

This new track ‘Accident and Error‘; packs a blow with it’s dose of Death Metal with technicality and gilded production. The serrated guitar work has upheld the track’s brutality yet carries a melodic essence. The extrusive bass and slamming blast beats have made this track thick muscled. The diversity exemplified have been nothing short of their prodigy. The way it was meant to be! The ORIGIN way!

DYING FETUS [TREY WILLIAMS]: Bands that betray their fans have a hard time gaining back their trust and faith.

DYING FETUS, the American Death Metal group has released some of the greatest Death Metal records in history. With their new album ‘Wrong One To Fuck With‘; the band has pretty much annihilated everything in it’s path to release their much anticipated album after a mammoth 5 years. Trey Williams, the band’s drummer speaks to us in this exclusive interview about a variety of things such as the new album, tour life, India, food and much more. Excerpts:

MJM. Hey there, greetings from MJM! How are you doing?

Trey: I’m doing well; we just got back from a tour. I’m taking a few days to myself before going back to work.

MJM. This also happens to be your tenth year with Dying Fetus. How do you feel now? How has your journey been?

Trey: It’s great. I’m in my favorite band from high school. Being in Dying Fetus has allowed me to see the world. And I got to see India also!  We had an awesome time in Shillong, when we were there.

MJM. Congratulations on the upcoming new album ‘Wrong one to Fuck With’; tell us more about the name! It’s a catchy name and we would love to know how you guys decided it as the album title!

Trey: The album was without a name for a while. It was the last part we needed to create. We needed the album name to sound strong and imposing. So we took the song title “Wrong One To Fuck With” and used it as the album title also.  And we wanted to use a bit of shock and awe to get some attention.

17635369_10154586256422055_5089322384782748295_o

MJM. Having been in this journey for such a long time, did you ever feel the urge to change the sound of the band? Many bands are sort of changing their sound, as they grow. You guys are still crushing it like the old times! What are your thoughts on that?

Trey: We would never change the direct of this band.  It is a brand and our brand works. If we wanted to do another style of music we would start a different project, and keep dying fetus intact. Bands that betray their fans have a hard time gaining back their trust and faith. Consistency is the key.

DYING FETUS – “Your Treachery Will Die With You” (Official Music Video)

MJM. The last record was released about 5 years ago. How did the writing for the new album start off?

Trey: We did need some time to switch back into writing mode. We put touring on the back burner unless the offer was good.  And reign supreme was well liked and it improved our ability to stay on tour.  It also took a long time because we really tried to make a good album.  Even the art was greatly discussed and worked on. Quality was the top priority!

MJM. I love the lyrics that you guys put up; it’s not something random. It’s very sensible and certainly conveys messages that really matters a lot in this society. Who does the writing? Do you guys sit together and sort of discuss this or is it just one man taking over the lyrical aspect of it?

Trey: Sean wrote all the lyrics on this one.  We named the songs first and then tried to provide themes to the names. With a theme in place, Sean would have a good starting point. He would consult us and ask us for ideas if he was stumped.

MJM. The band visited India back in 2014. Anything you guys remember from the show here? Are you planning to visit the country again because Indian fans are dying to watch you guys live?

Trey: I kind of touched on this earlier. I enjoyed the food, the scenery, and the fans. We would like to return to India in the future.

MJM. You guys toured recently with Hatebreed, how was it?

Trey: The Hatebreed guys were very cool. We could not have asked for a better time.  I just hope we can tour with them again.

DYING FETUS – “Fixated On Devastation” (Official Music Video)

MJM. Tell us more about the album, what separates it from the rest and still make a powerful Dying Fetus record?

Trey: I wanted this album to burrow its melodies into the head of the listener. We wanted to have you wishing the songs would get out of your head. Heads bouncing along the whole time.

MJM. The metal community is always critical about how a band sounds, and there is always a comparison going on between the old and the new. So what’s your take on that? Is it necessary to always compare between the old and new?

Trey: You can’t stop that from happening. Even at your day job your performance will be compared to your previous work.  Of course, some people will say that a different album was better.

MJM. What are your genuine expectations from your fans? Are you guys nervous, as it’s been 5 years since the last album?

Trey: I expect our fans to throw down in the pit!

cropped-wotfw.jpg

MJM. Any message for the fans that look up to you and are eagerly waiting for your record?

Trey: Thanks for all the support. Without the fans, we would be nothing. It’s all about you, the fans.

MJM. Thank you so much for speaking with us! Hope to see you here in India soon again!

Trey: Thanks and cheers!
