Metaljesus Magazine- Best of Black Metal: 2015

I am back with this year’s list of, ‘Best Of Black Metal-2015’. The quality of the music produced and written are better known in the lesser parts of the world. I am happy to have heard tonnes of bands this year but never too easy to filter them all out to choose the best. My list goes below-

10. Délétere – Les heures de la peste

Extremely gloomy Canadian atmospheric black metal release. Fans of other Canadian black metal bands such as Forteresse, Sorcier des Glaces, Sombres Forêts must check this release.

Listen to it – here

9. Mgła – Exercises in Futility

Catchy and melodic riffs combined with gloomy atmosphere makes this an amazing album.

8. Grey Heaven Fall – Black Wisdom

Super spooky and dark and catchy black metal album with heavy Aosoth influence.

7Misþyrming – Söngvareldsogóreiðu

Icelandic black metal never cease to amaze me. This band is a great add to the amazing list of Icelandic black metal bands consisting of Svartidauði, Sinmara, Carpe Noctem, Wormlust, etc. Recommended to the fans of aforementioned bands.

6. Awe –Providentia

Album consisting of only 3 songs but each song length is above 14 minutes mark. Extremely dark and weird black metal album. Fans of BlutAus Nord and Deathspell Omega must check this out.

5. Shrine of Insanabilis – Disciples of the Void

Aggressive German black metal release with memorable riffs. Fans of Dark Funeral, Marduk, Urgehal must check this out.

Check out their music here-

4. VI – De PraestigiisAngelorum

Extremely wicked and evil French black metal release with super catchy and melodic riffs.

3. Akhlys – The Dreaming I

Brilliant release. Akhlys is a side project of Nightbringer frontman Naas Alcameth and ‘The Dreaming I’ definitely has lots of similarities to Nightbringer‘s releases. However, unlike Nightbringer, the band adds a lot of dark ambient music in their album which makes this album super spooky and dark.

2. Lychgate – An Antidote for the Glass Pill

Most original and unique black metal release of 2015. Consists of a lot of keyboard and organ experimentation to create dark and mystical tones. Best Avant-Garde black metal release of the year.

  1. Kzohh – Rye. Fleas. Chrismon.

Definitely my favorite black metal release of the year. The band consists of members from Khors, Nokturnal Mortum, Elderblood and Ulvegr and the band name is formed from the initials of the pseudonyms of the members. This album sounds like a great amalgamation of Stab Wounds and Séance era Dark Fortress and Funeral doom giants Evoken. Cold and bone chilling keyboards accompanied by slow doomy riffs makes you relive your worst nightmares over and over again. There are sounds of people screaming, crying babies, rusty swings and other keyboard effects and samples which makes you numb to the bone. Highly recommended!!

  1. Obsequiae – Aria of Vernal Tombs
  2. Leviathan – Scar Sighted
  3. Sad – Alpha Voyage (EP)
  4. The 135 – Lumen Per Lumen (EP)
  5. Downfall of Nur – Umbras de Barbagia

I am done with my list. I look forward to listening to more music next year, of course. I had be curious to know what you think. Let us know in the comments. Until next time. Have a good year ahead!
