One of the most promising bands from Mumbai, DARKRYPT have mesmerized their fans with their Raw Death Metal. They have some major announcements coming this 2016 and are also set to be a part of the Transcending Obscurity compilation this Christmas. The band is stoked to play in Thunderstorm-2.0, alongside Demonic Resurrection, DIRGE etc., on January 9th, 2016. Here’s a fun chat I had with the band.
MJM. Hey guys, how are things in the Darkrypt camp?
Everything is going great. We have been quite busy with composing new songs and few other things that are going to be revealed soon.
MJM. What does Darkrypt mean? What made you choose Death metal to portray your songs?
We wanted a band name that was unique as well as suitable for a death metal band and ‘Darkrypt’ met both the criterias. Even though all the members in the band have different influences, the sheer love for death metal has brought us together to play this genre.
MJM. Tell us about the early days of the band.
The early days were fun but difficult at the same time due to line up changes. The band was dormant for quite some time with Nachiket and Amey being the only members remaining but the band has been stable since Rishabh and Aumkar joined back in October 2013.
MJM. Your single release, ‘Red Rum’ was received well. How did it take place?
Amey initially sent ‘Redrum’ as a scratch track to Nachiket post which the song refining was done by the previous lineup consisting of Joe on lead guitars and Chaitanya Kulkarni on drums.
MJM. There was also an announcement earlier that one of your songs, would be included in the Transcending Obscurity compilation. How do you feel about it?
We are very excited to be a part of the compilation which will consist of 50 bands from India as well from outside. A demo of our new song would be included in the compilation.
MJM. You added a new band member. Tell us about him. What do you guys do on a full time?
We’ve known Mihir for a long time. He has been playing as a live guitarist for some of our previous gigs. So he was a perfect fit in for us. On a full time basis, we are working and studying different courses.
MJM. Are there any specific Indian bands you are an avid fan of?
We listen to a lot of Indian metal bands. Some of our favourite bands are Primitiv, Fragarak, IIIrd Sovereign, Myndsnare, Kryptos and Infernal wrath.
MJM. What does Darkrypt mean to you?
We have put in a lot of efforts in this band and it means a lot to us.
MJM. What are the things that goes into writing when you set out?
We come up with different ideas and during jams we work on them and finalise the songs.
MJM. Do you idolize any artists / bands in specific?
Not any specific band, we listen to a lot of different bands from different genres but some of the death metal bands that we like are Death, Morbid Angel, Incantation, Immolation, Sulphur Aeon, Cruciamentum, Pestilence, Atheist, Vader, Demilich, Adramelech, Asphyx, Revocation, etc.
MJM. Tell us about your dream stage and which band would you love to tour with?
For us our dream stage would probably be Wacken. We would love to play with Death Metal giants like Obituary, Incantation, Immolation, etc.
MJM. Starting off 2016 with Thunderstorm. What’s running in your mind now?
We are very stoked to play at Thunderstorm Vol.2. The only thing running through our minds right now is to play a tight set.
MJM. What’s your setlist going to be like?
We are going to play a completely new set. Let’s see how it goes.
MJM. Any particular band that you are willing to catch up with?
All the bands in the lineup are amazing and we would love to share the stage with such great bands from our country.
MJM. Well, good luck with your endeavors guys! Have a good event.
Thanks a lot.
